A friend recently asked me to make monogrammed blanket scarves for a group of girls going on a 40th birthday trip to Napa. In leiu of a gift for the birthday girl, each friend brought enough of one item for each person to have (i.e. each girl got one of these scarves, as well as whatever else each person brought...how fun is that!). After wiping my tears that I couldn't stowaway in one of their carry-ons and go on the trip myself, I gathered these materials and got to work. With the help of the knowledgeable Lovelies at my local Tampa, FL sewing shop, Keep Me in Stitches, I was able to make it happen. I put together this tutorial with affiliate links to products you might need in case you want to try this project yourself. Keep in mind, this was the FIRST time I'd been brave enough to use my embroidery portion of my machine after owning it 8 years and they turned out great! Don't let fear get the best of you. Jump in and have fun with it. Happy Sewing!

Because these types of scarves are super soft and shift easily because of their loose threading, it's really important to be sure it is completely stable in the hoop before letting the machine do its thing. So while all of these stabilizers might seem like overkill, it will ensure your scarf doesn't move and your monogram turns out looking like it's supposed to.

Gather your materials:

After you gather your materials, you'll want to assemble them in this order:

1. Hoop the Sulky Sticky, then peel away paper.

2. Lay an Iron-On stabilizer on top of they Sulky Sticky.

You won't have to actually iron it to anything because voila, the Sulky paper is Sticky....so it sticks. ;)

3. Spray the Adhesive to the Stabilizer.

4. Place Scarf on top of sprayed stabilizer

5. Spray the Adhesive to the top of scarf.

6. Place Solvy Water Soluable Stabilizer on top of Sprayed Scarf.

7. Place Hoop onto your machine, and you're good to go!

I used the basic trial Embrilliance software to create the monograms below. I also printed one out to make sure it was the right size before moving to the machine.

PRO TIP: Triple Check the order of your letters. Monograms for women are typically in this order:

First Initial, Last Initial, Middle Initial {Kelly Ryan Thompson = kTr}

The gallery below shows you what it looks like when you remove from the hoop. Carefully tear away the stabilizers and cut any loose embroidery threads away.
